Local property news Spring 2017

The market town of Bridport and the adjoining coastal village of West Bay retain a good local population with many who were born or grew up in the area as well as those who have happily holidayed here for many years returning for their retirement, some using their pension pots to buy slightly ahead of their retiring years.
This has led to increasing demand on a limited supply of properties.  There has been relatively little development during the last 10 years and although there are now plans for new homes little is presently being built.  Therefore, prices are continuing upwards with some buyers forced to deliver sealed bids over and above the asking price.
The release of the third series of the popular TV series “Broadchurch” has further portrayed the beauty of the area with the iconic East Cliffs providing a fine backdrop for scenes, whilst the increasing number of walkers fall in love with the scenic Jurassic Coast and West Dorset coastal paths which, for many, become a lifestyle opportunity for health and well being.
The local hostelries and food establishments are ever popular, whilst the local markets provide artisan foods and beverages as well as antiques and collectables.
The Spring-time is traditionally a house-hunting extravaganza and this bodes well for a continuingly buoyant market.
Bridport Agents often quote that properties only become available due to the three ‘D’s – debt, divorce or departing.  Being mainly a retirement population and well looked after, there is little debt, little divorce and our healthy lifestyle ensures longevity but it is a fact that entering a residential homes or departing provide a large proportion of the properties coming to the market.
As local agents of nearly 40 years experience, the partners of Kennedys, offer a personal service to both sellers and buyers.  Tina Cornish, MBE, was born and has lived locally all her life she continues with much voluntary work within the community and knows the lifestyle and the opportunities that this area offers.  She has extensive knowledge of the industry and a lengthy experience of property in the town and surrounds – please do not hesitate to contact us whether buying or selling as, mostly, we have buyers ready and waiting ...  It’s a bit like match-making she says – and we certainly are passionate about property...!
